Beverly Herbert
Director of Development
and External Communications

Beverly L. Herbert is The Association’s first Director of Development and External Communications, joining The Association in March 2000 to establish this department. Beverly has more than 35 years experience in the Planning, Development, and Communications industries. Under her tenure The Association’s fund development program has grown from an annual appeal to a comprehensive development program that now includes a planned giving and major gift program and the annual campaign has grown from $40K to almost $500,000.
Educated at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT), in Cambridge, Massachusetts and Gordon-Cornwell Theological Seminary, in Hamilton, Massachusetts, Beverly has earned Bachelor of Science, Master of City Planning and Master of Divinity degrees. She has trained business leaders, served in churches, communicated with international audiences and written for trade and local publications. In 2006, she graduated from the Human Service Forum Leaders’ Institute and in 2010 earned her re-certification as a Certified Fund Raising Executive (CFRE).
Beverly is an ordained minister with the A.M.E. Zion Church. She holds memberships with the Association of Fundraising Professionals, Women in Philanthropy, the Estate Planning Council of Hampden County, the AdClub of Western Massachusetts, the Press Club, and the American Marketing Association (AMA). Beverly is committed to the development field. She volunteers with AFP International, serving on their Diverse Communities in Fundraising Task Force and the AFP Membership Services Division; volunteers locally on the Board of Directors of the Western Massachusetts Chapter of AFP where she is treasurer and also chairs the chapter’s diversity committee; and lectures at local and regional conferences.
