Gail Brown

The Association, since 1978, has employed Gail T. Brown, now as Division Director. She received her B.S. in Psychology and Rehabilitation Counseling and a M.Ed. in Rehabilitation Counseling from Springfield College. She has also attended the Management Institute, a graduate / executive development certificate program for non-profit executives and, in December 2004, she completed the Leadership Development Institute sponsored by the Human Service Forum and the University of Massachusetts Donahue Institute. From September 1984 until March of 1985, she served as Acting Executive Director for The Association.
Gail has previously worked at Goodwill Industries and other social service agencies in Western Massachusetts. Gail is a Certified Rehabilitation Counselor, Licensed Rehabilitation Counselor, Licensed Certified Social Worker and Mediator. Gail presently serves as Board Chair of the Association of Developmental Disability Providers (ADDP), the state-wide trade association of community organizations across Massachusetts that provide services and supports to individuals with intellectual, developmental and traumatic brain injuries.
She also serves on the Steering Committee for The Collaborative, representing common issues for MCHSP, ABH and ADDP. Active with the Massachusetts Chapter of the Social Enterprise Alliance, Gail presently serves as one of the founding Board Members. She has also served on the Board for the Massachusetts Chapter of the American Association of Mental Retardation. She chairs the ADDP Executive Committee and is an active member of the ADDP/DDS Coordinating Council and the ADDP Legislative, ADDP Institutional Closure and ADDP Residential Committees. As an ADDP Board member, she represents Western Massachusetts Providers with the Central/West Region of the Department of Developmental Services. She has served on the DDS Region I Peer Review Committee. In 2005, she was involved with Community Wealth Ventures and the Davis Foundation in developing a business plan for Valley Tees, a social enterprise business for The Association.
Along with other residential staff, Gail co-authored the Human Sexuality Handbook – Guiding People Toward Positive Expressions of Sexuality. Gail maintains her affiliation with the National Ski Patrol System and Okemo Mountain as a Certified Ski and Toboggan Examiner and Senior Ski Patroller. She volunteers her time as a Mediator with The Mediation and Training Collaborative. She resides in Wilbraham with her husband David, and their two children, Jonathan 21, a Senior at Daniel Webster College and Lauren 18, a Freshman at the University of Massachusetts – Amherst.
