Milestones
A business that provides recreation and enrichment programs for adults and older teens of all abilities
The Milestones program is an outgrowth of Whole Children, a recreation and enrichment program started in 2005 by parents of children with special needs.
As the children who began with the program in 2005 began growing up, Whole Children realized that it needed to grow, too.
So the Milestones program, focusing on learning, independence, inclusion, friendship and enrichment for older teens and adults, was born.
Milestone's classes are designed to teach teens and young adults the building blocks of becoming a young adult, including social skills, boundaries, safety, dating, sexuality, and so much more:
Transitions I: (ages 14-18)
In this class we review sexuality lessons, and talk about emotions and feelings around friendships and romance. Students learn how to be home alone safely, first aid, and understanding money, transportation, and community service. We also hold a book group to start discussions and find common interests.
Transitions II: (ages 18 and up)
Building on Transition I topics, this class digs more deeply into pragmatic work skills, such as how to dress for an interview, how to write a resume, and even some limited job opportunties.
Self Advocay:
The focus is on helping students develop interests, gain confidence, and learn to speak up for themselves. Topics include understanding disabilities, health and fitness, relationships, and educational advocacy. The class often includes community outings.
