Friends don’t come with instructions…..

But clear instruction on social communication is often what’s needed most by people with an autism spectrum disorder or other nonverbal learning differences who want to form lasting friendships.

People who learn to communicate more effectively increase their opportunities for better relationships at home, in school, in their workplace and in their community.

Social Skill Builderssm helps individuals and families access social skills materials, providers, and coaching.  We teach communication skills in a way that reflects the requirements and learning styles of people with autism spectrum diagnosis or other nonverbal differences.

We began in 2000 as a group primarily composed of parents who wanted social skills support for our children.

Since then, we’ve fostered greater awareness of social skills coaching, worked toward increasing the number of professionals who provide social skills coaching, and helped families access related services in western Massachusetts.

Today, Social Skill Builderssm raises awareness, links individuals, families and professionals, and builds social skills resources in western Massachusetts by:

  • helping establish social skills coaching groups for people with communication-based differences
  • hosting workshops for individuals, families, and professionals on the benefits of social skills coaching that also provide strategies for improved social skills
  • hosting training sessions for coaching group leaders
  • providing opportunities for individuals, families, and professionals to network and learn from each other

You can help make social skills resources available in Western Massachusetts. Here’s how:
